National Indigenous leaders will be included in a First Ministers’ Meeting (FMM) hosted in the National Capital Region on Oct. 3. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made the announcement Sept. 7.

“Canada is making progress towards a true nation-to-nation, Inuit-Crown, and government-to-government relationship with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples in Canada,” said Trudeau.

“I look forward to meeting with Indigenous leaders and building on the real progress we have made toward renewing our relationship with Indigenous peoples.”

Since the last FMM on Dec. 9, 2016, federal, provincial, and territorial governments have been working to implement the pan-Canadian Framework on Clean Growth and Climate Change, reads a press statement. On Oct. 3, First Ministers will discuss strong, sustainable economic growth that benefits everyone. The meeting with Indigenous leaders will focus on economic development in Indigenous communities.
