Owen Headrick will continue to play professional hockey during the summer months.
Headrick, a member of Garden River First Nation in northern Ontario, has signed on to play in 3ICE, a pro 3-on-3 circuit that features tournaments in various North American cities.
Headrick, a 25-year-old defenceman, is currently playing with the ECHL’s Idaho Steelheads.
For 3ICE, which is heading into its second season of operations, he will join Team Patrick, coached by former NHL player Craig Patrick.
All eights squads in 3ICE are coached by ex-NHL players.
The 2023 3ICE schedule will feature seven weekend tournaments, including the championship finals, set for Aug. 12 in Philadelphia.
The league will kick off with tournaments in a pair of Pennsylvania cities, June 28 in Pittsburgh and July 5 in Hershey.
Other events during the season will be held in Boston, Newark, which is a city in New Jersey, the Michigan city of Grand Rapids and Clarksville in Tennessee.
