Summary

The rally begins at 10:30 a.m. May 29.

The Association of Iroquois and Allied Indians with Council Fire Native Cultural Centre will hold a rally May 29 at Regent Park in Toronto to “signal the defense of our international treaties and inherent rights.” It will be a walk of solidarity to oppose the federal Rights Recognition Framework Legislation.

“When Indigenous Peoples entered into treaty with Britain and Canada they did so as Nations,” reads a media advisory.  “Now Canada seeks to eliminate that relationship and pull the First Nation peoples into their colonial system.”

The advisory states the demonstration will show communities will come together “and not back down”.

“We will not be subjugated to a process through which we were not informed of or consulted on.”

The rally begins at 10:30 a.m. The group will make its way to the Indigenous and Northern Affairs Regional Office. Along the way there will be stops for speakers and a drum to sing.
