May 18, 2016. Troy Emery Twigg has been appointed new artistic director for the Making of Treaty 7 Cultural Society. A member of the Kainai Nation, Twigg is an arts instigator, educator, choreographer, performer, and director. He comes from a varied and diverse training and background in arts and education. Twigg brings to Making Treaty 7 a national reputation with 20 years of experience in building arts communities, dance, theatre, performance and creative activities. “(Twigg) has been involved with Making Treaty 7 since its inception, he understands the dynamics of working in both cultures and he is respected by all of our stakeholders,” said Lee Crowchild, chair of the Making Treaty 7 Cultural Society Board. Since its founding in 2012, the Making Treaty 7 Cultural Society has been unique in nature – a co-creation of First-Nations and non-First Nations artists and community, with a mandate to bring understanding between the two worlds through theatre, art, and educational programs. The society enters its third year of staging the popular and powerful Making Treaty 7 multi-arts production. The society was founded by Michael Green and Narcisse Blood, who, along with three others, died in a multiple vehicle traffic accident in Saskatchewan in February 2015.
