Prime Minister Justin Trudeau offered his government’s and the Canadian peoples’ apology to the Poundmaker Cree Nation in a special ceremony May 23, held to exonerated Chief Poundmaker of the crimes he was charged with 134 years ago in the aftermath of the Riel resistance.
Photographer Bert Crowfoot was on site of the historical Cut Knife Creek battle in Saskatchewan, where Trudeau made his address and kneeled at the grave of Chief Poundmaker (Pîhtokahanapiwiyin) as he placed tobacco.
