About 60 minutes ago, after an emergency meeting, residents of Wabasca, Alta. have been evacuated due to wildfire nearby. It is a precautionary measure, but it is mandatory.

In a statement to the community, a representative of the MD of Opportunity has asked that residents register at the Wabasca Community Hall before they leave or at the Calling Lake Rec Centre.

People in need of transportation are being told to call 780-891-2659. It is the number for the Command Centre.

Bigstone Cree Nation is also under an evacuation alert. We are trying to get more information on this as some reports are that the evacuation is for Reserves B and D, but others are saying it is the entire community. More to come.
