The May-long weekend saw Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump host nearly 1,300 visitors. That’s an increase of one-third from the previous year.

Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump was only one of many Alberta tourist destinations that experienced heavy attendance numbers as more than 21,100 people celebrated the Victoria Day long weekend (May 20 to May 22) at Alberta heritage facilities across the province. Last year’s May long weekend attracted 16,078 visitors.

“I’m thrilled that our historic sites, museums and archives continue to be a big hit with Albertans. They are great places to learn, have fun, and connect with the past,” said Culture and Tourism Minister Ricardo Miranda.

Alberta has 20 provincial historic sites, museums and archives.
