Doomsday clock announcement.

Summary

The clock is at 2 minutes to midnight, the closet it has been in the warning of the "end of humanity", equaling the time of the Cold War in the 1950s. The clock is a metaphor to relay the dangers the world is facing.

The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists  have announced the time of the 2019 Doomsday Clock.

As of 2018, the clock was set to 2 minutes to midnight. The clock was designed in 1947. The bulletin sets the clock to show how much time we have left, meaning “the end of humanity”. Climate Change, cybersecurity, nuclear weapons and President Donald Trump were listed as causes influencing pushing the clock forward 30 seconds in 2018.

This year, the clock remains at two minutes to midnight, but lack of movement is not a good sign. The bulletin cites the factors of Climate Change, cyber information wars, or the corruption of the information environment (fake news claims when reality is inconvenient which attacks the idea of rational discourse), and the possibility of a "blunder" into nuclear war.

The news conference took place at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.
