Summary
“They’re not hanging around waiting for trouble.”
The RCMP is meeting with municipal governments along the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion route to discuss security issues around expected protests and disruption during construction.
Thompson-Nicola Regional District chair Ken Gillis told Kamloops This Week that directors, including Kamloops Mayor Ken Christian, were briefed on Wednesday Aug. 14 on the preparations RCMP are making, saying a “special force” has been designated.
“They’re not hanging around waiting for trouble,” Gillis told the newspaper. “They are available to be called in if trouble should arise.”
It is believed to be the first meeting of its kind between police and the regional district directors, with no future meetings planned.
