Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada Minister Carolyn Bennett extended congratulations today to six First Nations schools – including Napi's Playground Elementary School on the Piikani Nation – for joining the Martin Family Initiative’s Model School Literacy Project for the 2016-2017 school year.

Former Prime Minister Paul Martin visited the elementary school on Feb. 13. He has sponsored the literacy initiative at the kindergarten to Grade 3 levels for the next six years.

He also helped to expand and make improvements in the school library.

“This initiative will help unlock student success and opportunity, as well as provide the tools for Indigenous students to become tomorrow’s leaders,” said Bennett.
