Alberta’s Minister of Indigenous Relations Richard Feehan joined CFWE-FM on location at Victoria Park in Edmonton for National Aboriginal Day celebrations today.

“Great day to celebrate culture. Great day to look at traditions, learn something.” Feehan said he’s been encouraging people to get out today and take part in a wide variety of events and learn about Aboriginal peoples.

“Most of us didn’t learn about it in school. Most of us didn’t have much chance to interact with the Indigenous community, and this is the day to do it…. And he food’s always good.”

Feehan commented on the moosehide patch he wears to remind people to support healthy families free of domestic violence and end violence against Indigenous women and children.

He was also wearing a little sash pin, given him by the Metis Settlements General Council.

He was heading to Maskwacis for an important event happening in that community today as well.
