On Jan. 22, 2018, Barrhead RCMP and Alberta Heath Services (AHS) received a report of a man calling a woman in Barrhead, claiming to be from a medical imaging facility.

The caller relays breast screening exam follow up information and advises an immediate breast self-exam must be conducted while on the phone. The caller also asks for the women’s personal information.

Although AHS representatives may call to discuss a mammography details, they will never ask a patient to conduct a breast self-exam over the phone.

  •        Review your phone providers call trace options if available and follow the procedures
  •        Contact your local police right away

If you are uncertain whether the call is legitimate, you can call the AHS’ Screening Program Client Support Line at 1-866-727-3926.

Barrhead and Athabasca RCMP were informed of two similar incidents in the summer of 2017 that occurred with separate women. Police are still investigating these incidents and encourage anyone who has experienced similar calls to please contact your local police.
