Position Summary:

The Pimatisowin Keeper (Coordinator) promotes cultural inclusivity in the school by integrating Nêhiyawak Pimatisowin (Good Life) values and traditions. This role includes organizing cultural activities, leading sharing circles, coordinating with Elder Knowledge Keepers, and implementing peacekeeping strategies to support student well-being and foster nation relationships.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cultural Programs & Activities: Develop and lead cultural activities, sharing circles, and programs to promote holistic well-being.
  • Elder Knowledge Coordination: Schedule and support Elder visits to integrate cultural teachings into school life.
  • Peacekeeping Strategies: Use alternative methods to address student behavior and promote restorative justice.
  • Community Engagement: Build connections with Nehiyawak nations, parents, and organizations to support cultural initiatives.
  • Administration: Record activities and submit regular program reports.

 

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and experience with Nêhiyawak traditions
  • Bachelor’s degree in Learning Studies, Social Work, or related field
  • Experience working with First Nations communities
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of restorative justice or peacemaking methods (an asset)

 

Preferred Attributes:

  • Fluent or interested in learning Nehiyawewin
  • Passionate about promoting cultural diversity in education

 

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time (Monday to Thursday); some evenings/weekends required for events.
