JOB DESCRIPTION:

Reporting directly to the Chief and Council of the SCFN, the Director of Operations will provide leadership and support to the SCFN Administration. The Director of Operations is to become a core, senior member of its management team and is responsible for overseeing SCFN as a whole and ensuring meeting the mandates of the Nation. The ideal individual for this role will be responsible for leadership, developing, managing, and implementing the SCFN's programs and policies. The Director of Operations will be accountable to the industry, government, community and to SCFN. The Director of Operations will ensure effective and efficient management of all industry and government related business activities flowing into and out of SCFN, including the consultation process, adherence to regulatory and compliance standards, industry relations, and economic development opportunities. The Director of Operations will work in close collaboration with its various stakeholders to ensure an integrated approach and optimizing industry and government relations to benefit the Nation as a whole.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Sets and leads the overall strategic direction and operational management of the SCFN.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required along with the ability to provide direct, actionable, and positive and/or corrective feedback to others.
  • Work in collaboration with the Chief Financial Officer in developing, recommending, and implementing the SCFN Annual Operating Budget.
  • Track and meet financial objectives through careful, responsible, and transparent monitoring and reporting of financial results to the SCFN.
  • Implement, monitor, recommend and update the Risk Management, Fraud Risk Plan and Risk Assessment to Chief and Council
  • Serves as the highest-level as a liaison between stakeholders, government agencies, industry resource development and operators for the Sucker Creek First. 
  • Oversees all facets of the consultation process, as the respective SCFN’s team members carried out.
  • Identify economic development opportunities and areas for commercial advancement between industry partners and stakeholders of the SCFN.
  • Work closely with the SCFN and Office of Commercial Development to explore, rationalize, and development of business leads.
  • Advocate on behalf of the SCFN to the government for the adequate and ongoing required level of support and funding to meet end-to-end government agencies requests/applications, consultations, and regulatory compliance/non-compliance decisions.

 

SKILLS AND ABILITY:

  • Undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field preferred and/or relevant combination of education and experience.
  • 10-15 years’ experience in leadership and management of complex groups or teams.
  • 10-15 years of experience in an indigenous relations role.
  • Experience with complex financial management, contract management, and business development preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of organizational effectiveness and operations management.
  • In depth knowledge of CIRNAC-Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada, funding and/or reporting requirements.
  • Ability to interact with stakeholders, government agencies and industry resources.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environments, with high degree of accountability.
  • Knowledge of Firsts Nations culture and traditions is an asset.  
  • Ability to speak Cree is an asset.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Must provide a criminal record (CPIC) check and Child Welfare Information System (CWIS) check, as required.
