(2) Day Care Worker - Early Childhood Educator (1 Year Term – Maternity/Parental Leave)

Summary:

We are looking for a patient, attentive daycare worker to care for children. The daycare worker will assist parents/ guardians by maintaining their hygiene, monitoring them for health, behavioral, and emotional concerns. As well as providing them with age-appropriate instruction, working with parents/guardians to ensure that children are learning and socializing in a positive way. The daycare worker will assist in the development and safety of these children in accordance with the relevant federal, territorial, and band legislation, policies, and procedures. He/she will act in a respectful manner when dealing with children and parents should be prepared to meet the physical demands of the position and understand the childhood development process.

 

Daycare Worker Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the planning and implementing of activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social needs of the children in the program.
  • Ensure the equipment and the facilities are clean, well maintained, and safe at all times.
  • Be aware of and follow established policies and procedures.
  • Be familiar with emergency procedures. 
  • Developing and encouraging age-appropriate learning and socialization to ensure children learn basic skills and concepts.
  • Maintaining a safe workplace by monitoring children for health, behavioral, and emotional issues and reporting concerns to staff and parents.
  • Preparing children to enter the next level of care or for entry into school.
  • Keeping records relating to childcare.
  • Working with parents to help children progress towards educational and behavioral goals.
  • Strong understanding of stages of childhood development. 
  • Decisiveness, patience, and stamina to chase after, lift, or carry children.

 

Daycare Worker Requirements:

  • Oath of Confidentiality must be signed prior to commencing employment.
  • Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3 Qualification Certificate
  • Childcare First Aid Certificate Required.
  • Record of immunizations.
  • Familiarity with Child Development theories and practices.
  • Ability to work well with all age groups, individually or in a group setting.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Must provide a criminal record (CPIC) check and a Child Welfare Information (CWIS) check, as required.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and submit a driver’s abstract.
  • Knowledge of First Nations culture and traditions is an asset.
