Headstart Bus Driver

Objective:

Bus driver provides and/or manage classroom and behind the wheel instruction according to corporate and client specifications in all aspects of vehicle operation in the course of passenger transportation, including defensive driving, service area familiarization, passenger loading, unloading and securement, proper manifest documentation, use of on-board equipment, accident and emergency procedures, dispatch and radio communications, and passenger sensitivity.

 

Driver Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Drive a passenger bus and transport passengers around to and from destination in a safe and courteous manner.
  • Pick up and drop off passengers to and from destinations in a comfortable, safe, efficient manner.
  • Conduct Pre-Trip Vehicle Inspections to Ensure Safe Operation
  • Pre-trip inspection of vehicle and completion of required forms.
  • Drive a School Bus Route - Picking up and Dropping Off Student Passengers at Established Stops on Route
  • Conduct Post-Trip Vehicle Inspections to Ensure All Passengers Have Left the Bus
  • Check horn, directional lights, head, tail, parking, and emergency lights for proper operation.
  • Supervise the loading and unloading of passengers and personal property onto the bus.
  • Monitor gauges and as necessary refuels the tank on the vehicle
  • Check tires for visible damage
  • Keep written records of trips, mileage, stopovers, fuel bridges, tolls, and records of passenger counts
  • Wash, sweep, clean and fuel buses, vans, and other vehicles required to drive.
  • To be available during the school hours, and school days assigned, unless otherwise discussed.
  • To transport passengers on field trips, activities, or planned events.

 

Driver Requirements:

  • Oath of Confidentiality must be signed prior to commencing employment.
  • Grade 10 Education Level
  • Must possess a valid Class 1 or Class 2 Driver’s License and submit a driver’s abstract.
  • Ability to work well with young children.
  • Childcare First Aid Certificate Required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Physically able to meet all physical demands.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Must provide a criminal record (CPIC) check and a Child Welfare Information (CWIS) check, as required.
  • Ability to speak Cree is an asset.
  • Knowledge of First Nations culture and traditions is an asset.
