Frog Lake Chief Greg W. Desjarlais was transferred a headdress through ceremony June 26 at the inauguration of the new chief and council. The links to this transfer ceremony originated from Sitting Bull after the Battle of the Little Big Horn. When he travelled north, Sitting Bull transferred headdresses to Treaty 7 leaders as an agreement of peace between his nation and theirs.
Chief Eric Shirt, Chief Cam Alexis and Chief Vernon Watchmaker attended and shared stories, wrote George Desjarlais on social media. Singers were Chuck G. Quinney Burton Quinney Sean Waskahat, Eric Faithful, George Faithful, and Vern Chocan.
Past Minor Chief of Tsuut’ina Traves Grant Meguinis conducted the ceremony, providing guidance and help throughout. Feather work was done by Monte Wolf Child. Wayne Joe Dion and Rick Marty also assisted on the ceremony and inauguration day.
