Family Worker – Safety Sensitive

JOB SUMMARY

Onion Lake Family Services supports families by collaborating with our community and elders to assist our children, youth and families to thrive in a nurturing and safe environment.   Part of our service is to provide protection assistance to those who may be at risk.  The Family Worker uses family systems theory to assess and maintain the balance between protecting children and strengthening and maintaining the family unity.

DEPARTMENT:         Protection

TERM:                       Permanent Positions

CORE HOURS:          Monday to Friday 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM

                                  Please note, some evenings and weekends are required

                                  Rotational On-Call Schedule

Based on these services, we are seeking an energetic, conscientious, and detail oriented individual who enjoys making a difference, being part of a team, and takes pride in his or her career.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:

  • Identify, document and respond to physical, emotional and behavioral indicators of abuse, neglect and emotional injury
  • Perform Structured Decision Making Risk assessments (SDM) at all required points in the life of a case file
  • Assess strengths and needs of children and families in consultation with the family
  • Engage children and families in the ongoing assessment and case planning process
  • Conduct face to face interviews with children and families to gather information
  • Ensure goals and tasks are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, time limited and clearly understood by everyone involved in the case planning process
  • Ensure the development of a safety plan and required supports are identified within the plan
  • Ensure all legal and procedural requirements are completed for court purposes in a timely manner
  • Attend court to give testimony to case facts
  • Participate in the on call schedule for after hour services on a rotational basis
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • B.S.W or B.I.S.W, required to register with Saskatchewan Association of Social Workers.  Equivalences will be considered
  • Two years Child Welfare  experience is preferred, but not required
