Medical Transportation Driver

Our ideal candidate will have a cheerful disposition, motivated, reliable, dependable and organized - eager to learn – high standard of professionalism; knowledge of First Nations culture or be willing to adapt and learn the culture and structures specific to Kapawe’no First Nation. 

Reporting to the Medical Transportation Coordinator and the Health Manager, this position will be responsible for driving clients to and from medical appointments at various facilities.

Experience, Knowledge and Skills:

  • motivated, reliable, dependable and organized - eager to learn;
  • good communication skills,
  • exceptional driving skills, for any weather conditions
  • ability to drive in various settings, city and rural
  • ability to understand basic map systems
  • ability to work flexible hours, including overnight transportation services

Additional requirements / conditions:

  • record of vaccination – includes proof of double covid-19 vaccination
  • criminal record check, including vulnerable sector check
  • child welfare information system check
  • oath of confidentiality
  • ability to pass drug testing and be fit for duty
  • possess valid Class 5 driver’s license or higher level and own or access to a vehicle;
  • willingness to take Class 4 driver training; provided by the First Nation
  • willingness and ability to work after hours and/or weekends when required;
  • ability to speak and/or understand the Cree language is considered an asset.

Duties:

  • driving clients to and from medical appointments at various facilities
  • perform various maintenance services for Health Center Funded buildings when driving services are not needed
  • knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance
  • pre-trip inspection of medical van/car
  • provide back up support to the Medical Transportation Coordinator, data entry, scheduling, client inquiries
  • maintaining the medical van/car cleanliness, exterior and interior
