Health Manager

If so, Kapawe’no First Nation is seeking a self-motivated ‘Health Manager’ to manage the operations of this busy community health centre.  Our ideal candidate will have a cheerful disposition, motivated, reliable, dependable and organized - eager to learn – excellent fluency in computer usage; experience in management and administration is desired; knowledge of First Nations culture or be willing to adapt and learn the culture and structures specific to Kapawe’no First Nation. 

Reporting to the Nation Manager, the Health Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operation and management of the Health department continually ensuring that the community members have access to efficient and quality health services. The incumbent shall provide substantial operational and planning oversight as well as planning and health service delivery system wide. The Manager will assist in the implementation of the Health operational strategies, as well as human resources management.

PROFFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Post-secondary education in Health Sciences (e.g., nursing, health care management, home support worker, social development) or in Health Administration or a degree in business. OR an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.

 

Experience, Knowledge and Skills:

  • motivated, reliable, dependable and organized - eager to learn;
  • cheerful disposition – enjoys working with and speaking with people;
  • possess excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to accept responsibility and demonstrate accountability; ability to work both independently and as a team player.
  • proficient in and demonstrated skills in MS Word, Excel, Publisher and other common programs;
  • experience in management and administration, preferably in the health field;
  • Knowledge of Health Canada and/or Indigenous Service Canada (ISC) policies and procedures and other relevant legislation.
  • knowledge and understanding of First Nations’ culture, tradition, needs, issues and concerns regarding health;
  • knowledge and understanding of First Nations’ issues pertaining to treaty rights in relation to health;
  • knowledge and experience involving management and administrative matters/practices such as strategic planning;
  • FNHMA Certification – or working towards certification is an asset

Additional requirements / conditions:

  • record of vaccination – includes proof of double covid-19 vaccination
  • criminal record check, including vulnerable sector check
  • child welfare information system check
  • oath of confidentiality
  • ability to pass drug testing and be fit for duty
  • possess valid driver’s license and own or access to a vehicle;
  • willingness and ability to work after hours and/or weekends when required;
  • ability to speak and/or understand the Cree language is considered an asset.
