Associate Vice President, Human Resources - Mount Royal University

Mount Royal University is located in the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of the Treaty 7 region in southern Alberta, which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut'ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda. We are situated on land where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. The traditional Blackfoot name of this place is "Mohkinstsis." The city of Calgary is also home to the Métis Nation.

Mount Royal University is a student-first community, supported by our dedicated faculty and staff. We were founded in 1910 and grew into a vibrant college in the 1930s. For many years, we focused on applied and collaborative degrees, certificates and diplomas. In 2007, we began offering our own baccalaureate degrees and became a university in 2009.

Reporting to the VP Finance & Administration, the AVP, Human Resources is responsible for all people and culture related initiatives. This position has a wide span of responsibilities for the leadership of human resources services across the institution, including diversity, equity and inclusion; labour and employee relations, employee health & wellness, HR policies and procedures, compensation, employee recruitment and retention, pay and benefits, and training and organizational development.

The AVP will be an inclusive leader supporting institution-wide change management initiatives, as a knowledgeable, collaborative, and progressive human resources champion. In addition, the AVP will be a strategic human resources generalist. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership and relationship building skills, with the ability to gain the confidence and respect of external stakeholders, University leaders, faculty and staff members.

As the successful candidate, you will have at minimum, a post-secondary degree in Human Resources or a relevant field, with at least 10 years of progressive experience leading an HR function.  CPHR or equivalent designation would be considered an asset. You will have sound business acumen and strong knowledge and experience in HR best practices and talent management. With advanced interpersonal skills, you have proven yourself as a leader and have the ability to inspire excellence in others.
