Council Member - First Nations & Metis Women's Councils on Economic Security, Government of Alberta


The Minister of Indigenous Relations is seeking applications from First Nations, Métis and Inuit women interested in serving as members of the First Nations and Métis Women’s Councils on Economic Security.

The First Nations and Métis Women’s Councils on Economic Security were established in 2013 to provide strategic advice to the Government of Alberta on ways to improve the lives of Indigenous women and their families. Indigenous women have defined economic security as having access to the resources and supports that contribute to physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being and give women the ability to provide the basic needs for their families in safe and secure communities and access to opportunities to participate in the provincial economy.

As a Council Member, you will demonstrate knowledge and diversity of Indigenous communities, including understanding of their attitudes and values, history, barriers and challenges in both urban and rural settings. You will foster meaningful dialogue with Indigenous communities. You will understand the contemporary and historical context of the issues facing Indigenous people, and the strength and resilience of Indigenous people and their communities. Demonstrated knowledge of, the Indigenous community or communities along with the ability to build networks and create trusting relationships with communities, government, and stakeholders will be essential to the role.
