The Children’s Cottage Society is a charitable agency established in Calgary in 1986. The Society’s mission is “Building strong children and safe nurturing families through prevention programs and support services” and our vision is “Resilient children blossom in healthy families.”

The purpose of this full time management role is to provide leadership to the staff of the Children’s Cottage Housing Programs including the HomeLinks, Rapid Rehousing, Adaptive Case Management and HomeBridge in order to support and facilitate the work of the Children’s Cottage Society in reaching its vision and mission.

 

HOURS: A 40 hour work week, Monday through Friday typically within standard working hours however the ability to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the program may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS: A degree in the Human Services area, Health Care or a related field is required with a minimum of 5 years of experience related to:

  • management of community based programs
  • leadership of staff
  • development of programs
  • management and development of budgets
  • experience utilizing and analyzing outcomes for continuous quality improvement
  • experience in report and grant writing
  • experience in the coaching and supervision of employees
  • Valid driver’s license and access to personal vehicle
  • Standard First Aid Certificate with CPR level C
  • Current Police Security and Child Intervention Record checks with satisfactory results
  • Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)
  • Experience using Efforts to Outcomes or similar client data bases
  • Brain Story Certificate an asset

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong business acumen with a firm understanding of budgeting and financial sustainability;
  • A proven track record in managing and administering a group of programs with a broad set of administrative responsibilities;
  • A deep passion and understanding of the human services environment, with a particular focus on families experiencing homelessness;
  • Experience developing and implementing strategies and plans, writing proposals and reports and overseeing large initiatives;
  • Experience in developing, implementing, and using in practice program logic models, following an evaluation framework and an understanding of evidence based practice;
  • Experience hiring and developing staff, coaching, evaluating performance, setting goals and measuring success;
  • Must be able to work well with people with a very wide diversity of demographic and cultural characteristics;
  • Exceptional communication and influencing skills:
  • Must be capable of achieving results while maintaining an inclusive, collaborative leadership style
  • Knowledge of the Homeless Sector and related community resources required

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the development, implementation, evaluation, and maintenance of standards for  the Society’s Housing Programs, including the HomeLinks, Rapid Rehousing, Adaptive Case Management and HomeBridge;
  • Work in close collaboration with the Director of Programs and other Managers;
  • Actively participate in the Children’s Cottage strategic planning processes, including relevant program budget development and management;
  • Ensure all programs operate under a balanced budget
  • Effectively lead, coach, develop and delegate to a team of Case Managers, and Housing Coaches
  • Provide one on one bi-weekly supervision with Case Managers and Housing Coaches
  • Conduct quarterly file reviews
  • Attend and facilitate meetings between Case Managers and clients to address concerns regarding programs
  • Responsible for being the contact person for clients and landlords when Case Managers and/or Housing Locator is unavailable
  • Network and participate in house viewings and meetings with landlords when required
  • Review and/or create on-going monthly rent subsidy cheque requests, approve and submit them.  
  • Review and approve move-in and set-up cheque requests
  • Manage public inquiries about the Society’s Housing Programs and refer the inquiries to the appropriate programs and assist with system navigation
  • Manage staffing and job performance of all staff; when needed in collaboration with Human Resources
  • Manage critical timelines, deliverables and deadlines and assist in setting priorities and developing action plans;
  • Identify opportunities for program growth and new initiatives
  • Analyse outcomes and evaluate programs; provide reports as needed to the Director of Programs, and CEO for use with funders, donors, and needed reports
  • Assist with revenue generating and fundraising activities to support existing programs and the growth of Children’s Cottage Society through public speaking, report writing, and attending events as necessary
  • Participate as an active member of the Society’s Leadership Team and Management Team
  • Participate in community committees that support the Society’s leadership direction or is advantageous to the Society
  • When called upon, act as a spokesperson for the Children’s Cottage
  • Inform and advise and assist the Director of Programs relative to revisions or additions to policies and procedures
  • Ensure that all programs and staff maintain best practice and a high quality of service, and are fully compliant with accreditation standards where applicable. Actively participate in program preparation for accreditation
  • Participate in a rotating Management on-call system to support all programs of the Children’s Cottage after hours and on week-ends
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Society.
  • Monitor data entry into HMIS
  • Monitor data entry into Efforts to Outcome (ETO)
  • Participate in the OH&S committee

  • Communicate, receive and exchange ideas, information by means of the spoken and written word clearly
  • Be mobile by moving oneself from place to place quickly and easily, including walking and climbing stairs
  • Ability to handle stressful situation in a logical and thoughtful way
  • Be able to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to sit at desk and use a computer for long periods of time
  • Repeat various motions with the wrists, hands and fingers
  • Drive to other locations in varying weather conditions
  • Must be able to stand, squat, walk, kneel, bend, grasp, climb, push and pull
  • Working with children and/or parents, in the community or within a shelter
