Jeff Ward, the founder and CEO of Animikii Indigenous Technology, has been named to the Business In Vancouver list of 40 outstanding professionals worthy of distinction who are under the age of 40.

It’s the 30th anniversary of the BIV 40 under 40 awards, which will be celebrated Jan. 30, 2020 at a gala held at Vancouver’s Westin Bayshore hotel.

The BIV awards highlight the achievements of BC's young entrepreneurs, executives and professionals who have demonstrated excellence in business, judgment, leadership and community contribution.

Ward’s first project was to build a website for Senator Thelma Chalifoux, Canada’s first female Métis senator and a family connection.

He then went on to work in the Silicon Valley when he was in his late teens and early 20s before opening Animikii, reads his story at BIV.com.

Ward, who is Ojibwa and Métis and originally from Manitoba, came back to Canada after the dot-com bust. He is now based in Victoria.

He said he wanted to use technology to create “equitable outcomes” for Indigenous people.
