Métis filmmaker Daniel Foreman has been invited by the Smithsonian Institute to share his work as part of the Native Cinema Showcase (NCS) at the New York Smithsonian Theatre.

His animated short film, “Raven and the Dogfish Woman”, was selected by the Smithsonian for screening in both New York in March and Sante Fe in August.

“Raven and the Dogfish Woman” won Best Animation at the Red Nation Film Festival in Hollywood in November 2018.

Another in the series "Legendary Myths: Raven Adventures", the film “Raven Goes Fishing” won "Best Animation" at the American Indian Film Institute film festival that same month.

The series is produced by Treaty 6 Productions in Edmonton.

In creating these live action/animated films, Foreman’s goal was to bring Indigenous teachings, culture, history and language into the hands of educators and children, reads a press statement. The NCS in New York will be part of the School Group screening with prominent educators and students attending.

The August screening will be at the Santa Fe Indian Market.

Sharlene Millang, the series producer, said she’s thrilled with the selection.
