Organizers of the World’s Longest Indigenous Hockey Game today announced that the marathon game will be postponed due to the worldwide outbreak of COVID-19, and the economic hardships facing Alberta.

The game now is scheduled for July 1 to July 12, 2021. It had been scheduled for those same dates this summer.

“With players sleeping in such tight quarters, and international dignitaries coming we felt this would be the safest way to ensure the health of our players, staff and spectators,” said Ray Francis, chair for the event.

Francis said “We have diligently monitored the development and risk of the coronavirus (COVID-19), and under the recommendation from our Director of Medical along with advice given by the Center for Disease Control and the World Health Organization this decision had to be made.”

With the economic times in Alberta along with COVID-19 this decision was pretty easy to come to. This unique situation has given the committee another full year to ensure the success of this event; all planning for the event will continue.
