Odjick averaging more than point per game

Tobias Odjick is following in the footsteps of his late father Gino and playing professional hockey.

But unlike his father, who played 12 seasons in the National Hockey League, the younger Odjick is toiling for the Danbury Hat Tricks in a minor pro circuit dubbed the Federal Prospects Hockey League.

Odjick, who is 22, appeared in 15 regular season matches this season with the Hat Tricks. And he collected 17 points (seven goals and 10 assists) in those appearances.

The Connecticut-based Hat Tricks are now gearing up for their playoffs, which begin April 7. Danbury will square off against the Elmira Mammoth in a best-of-three, quarter-final series.

Odjick had bounced around to eight different junior hockey clubs across Canada before turning pro last season with the Hat Tricks.

His father played in 649 NHL matches during his career. A member of Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg First Nation in Quebec, Gino Odjick suited up for four NHL franchises but was best known for his days with the Vancouver Canucks.

He died this past January at the age of 52.
