An annual summer sporting event that brings together hundreds of people on the West Coast of Vancouver Island for a week of friendly competition and social activities has been cancelled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is “with great regret”, writes the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council, that the 2020 Tlu-piich Games have been cancelled. The games are held in Port Alberni and bring together young people from the Nuu-chah-nulth territories.

“We understand that there will be some disappoint as many look forward to this fun gathering of family and friends,” reads a press statement. “However we are in extraordinary times with the (COVID-19) pandemic and we believe that this is the right decision to make at this time.”
