Condolences offered to those impacted by a house fire in KI First Nation

Ontario Regional Chief RoseAnne Archibald expressed her utmost sadness as a tragic house fire has claimed the lives of five people in Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nation.

“On behalf of the Chiefs of Ontario, we send our heartfelt condolences, and our prayers and thoughts to the family, friends, Chief and council and community during this tragic situation.

“Out of respect for the community we all should maintain and respect their need for privacy during this time,” said Ontario Regional Chief RoseAnne Archibald.

“I have spoken to Chief Morris this afternoon and offered my prayers and support as the community grapples with this catastrophe. As I continue to reflect on this tragic situation, it is with a sad heart that I realize that this preventable and unnecessary tragedy is affecting yet again another First Nation community.

“While we mourn now, we will be looking to seek solutions, with all parties to prevent any future unnecessary deaths of First Nations citizens due to fire.”
