Executive Director, O’Chiese Business Centre

Under the direction of the O’Chiese Board of Directors, the Executive Director is primarily responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of the O’Chiese Business & Investment Centre (OCBIC).

Provide to the Chief and Council of O’Chiese First Nation and to the respective Boards of Directors of the corporations and partnerships in which OChiese First Nation owns or has an interest in, business and financial advice and analysis on the business and affairs and activities of OCBIC and various corporations and partnerships owned by O’Chiese First Nation.

Each of the corporations owned by O’Chiese First Nation has its own officers and Board of Directors which are the elected Chief and the members of the elected Council of O’Chiese First Nation.

The Executive Director shall demonstrate professionalism at all times.

General Responsibilities: 

  • Participate with the Employer’s Board of Directors in developing a vision and strategic plan to guide the Chief and Council of O’Chiese First Nation.
  • Identify, assess, and inform the Employer’s Board of Directors of internal and external issues that affect the corporations and partnerships. 
  • Act as a professional advisor to the Employer’s Board of Directors.
  • Foster effective teamwork between the Board of Directors and the Executive Director and between the Executive Director and staff.
  • Act as a spokesperson for OCBIC at the express direction of the Board of Directors of the corporations. 
  • Conduct official correspondence on behalf of the Employer’s Board of Directors as appropriate and jointly with the Board of Directors when appropriate.
  • Represent OCBIC at community activities to enhance OCBIC’s community profile.
  • Ensure that the operation of the OCBIC meets the expectations of the Board of Directors. 
  • Working with staff and the Employer’s Board of Directors to prepare a comprehensive budget.
  • Working with the Employer’s Board of Directors to secure adequate funding for the operation of the Employer. 
  • Provide support to the Board by identifying meeting agenda and presentation of supporting materials/documentation.
  • Oversee the planning, implementation, execution and evaluation of special projects, new ventures, and potential partnerships.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as necessary or assigned.

Professional Experience and Qualification:

  • University Degree in Business or Finance, Master’s in Business Administration preferred. 
  • Must have proven leadership skills, interpersonal communication, writing skills and critical thinking skills. 
  • Proven Track record with a minimum 10 years of progressive management experience. 
  • Demonstrated success in building a highly-functioning team.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with co-workers at all levels. 
  • Ability to make solid decisions and exercise independent judgment. 
  • Knowledge of First Nation, federal and provincial reporting requirements.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, plan and implement new standards, procedures and/or strategies.
  • Ability to draft complex reports and materials and give lengthy oral and written reports. 

Conditions of Employment:

  • Successful candidates must be able to pass a professional background & criminal record check
  • Must have a Class 5 Driver’s License with clean drivers abstract.

Remuneration:​ Negotiated based on experience and qualifications.
